Five Things You Need to Know about Writing Articles
I am writing this post not because it would help your SEO but to help anyone who has just started writing to do it right or even if you have been doing it for a while and are looking to add value, especially writing articles on a niche topic so having this knowledge is very handy.
We all want our posts to stand out from the rest but only about three% of them will be read by more than two people. A large part of that is the amount of writing you need to do to reach many readers and be successful in your future work as an online writer.
The following are five things you should know while composing any sort of article.
1) Write Good Titles
This is very important because readers often skip reading an article to go to their own email inboxes to see what they want to receive after reading the first few paragraphs and click away or get lost in the text. This can lead to readers leaving without ever experiencing a great experience with the piece at hand which makes them never return to read it again. But with good titles, you are able to write a quick review of the subject in your head right before you hit submit.
2) Put Proper Categorization In Your Article
Categories and sub-categories are important parts of your article but they should be well described and clearly stated. They should also contain your main point and a brief summary. Also, they are very effective at capturing your readers’ interest because they are easy targets for readers to look-up. If an article in your category does not have this information it’s probably not going to be a reader favorite.
3) Have An Outline Of The Topic Before It Goes Online
It also helps your readers to find an interesting topic to discuss about before they start reading through and this allows you to keep the momentum of the topic flowing through and hopefully engage more readers. There is no better way to achieve this than with an outline. Write down an area you wish to cover and think about what questions you may ask someone in your study of it. Then, go onto your article and describe that section and explain what it explains without really knowing what this article is talking about.
4) Use Images Effectively
Images, photos and videos have become such powerful tools that they are practically indispensable to an article. Their power comes down mainly from the visual appeal they offer as well as how easily they can be shared on social networks like Facebook, Twitter and Instagram. With all these types of images there is a chance that some readers may pass over the image without really realizing that they are reading something and also because it could be mistaken for one of the most crucial pieces of content that readers have seen or received from reading the article. It is important to find an image that is going to capture the attention of the readers who visit the website. Then make sure they stick around for the entirety of your article so the image stays fresh and appealing to the readers. You do not want to lose precious time trying to figure out what type of imagery you use because that means that you won't actually be reading the whole article. It's worth it to pay enough attention to your images because then everything becomes easier to understand.
5) Offer Readers Something Unique To Read
When writing an article, you should always give readers something to go off of which is the main reason people go on reading your articles and reading other articles on the same subject. Give them something different to say and give them a voice that will draw them into reading your article because they will be reading something unique and a voice that they can relate to. Make sure that at every page of your article that there is something new and exciting you include because the more you tell your story, the better and deeper the article gets. That way readers will continue looking for more and more as long as the topics and sections never run dry.
These were some five things you should know before starting out as an online writer. Now that you have these skills as a writer the next thing we would recommend is to seek out a mentor if they are willing to teach you. Mentors provide you with valuable insight and advice which can help you learn and grow further as a writer not just as an individual but as an entire community too. For now, you can still learn from it and if possible take those pointers to apply in your future articles to grow and contribute much more to the world of writing.
